Measuring Cups & Spoons

Hey Ladies! We're nearing the end of our first week of competition. I hope you've been doing great. I can already see results in how this accountability is helping me.

Since we've all set a calorie budget for each day and we have a goal to stay within it, we should all start seeing results right away. However we sometimes make the mistake of assuming we know how much food we're eating. When I start being really careful about my food intake I keep my measuring cups and spoons out on the counter all the time. I also read labels, count crackers, and look things up multiple times a day. Though it is sometimes tedious, the pounds generally start moving in the right direction.

Here's a good article I found this week about how many of us underestimate the amount of food we consume and some added encouragement to measure your food.

I don't have a food scale, but I am hoping for one for Christmas.

  1. I love my food scale. It is really hard to estimate how much an ounce of something is, particularly something like cheese that is calorie dense. It is SO easy to underestimate how much you're eating, measuring and weighing is super important! Annoying and often inconvenient, but important. :)

  2. So true...I count every nut to make sure it's the actual serving size...not just a handful that I estimate. This is especially important for things like salad dressing, sour cream, butter...anything that is really yummy and liquid-y. It's really easy to underestimate how much we use. The first time I measured out two tablespoons of salad dressing a few years I was shocked at just how little it really is...but it's what can make a salad go from nutritious to more fat and calories than a hamburger.
