The Magic of Oranges

I work at an elementary school that has a breakfast in the classroom program. That means every child receives a free breakfast whether they eat it or not. Twice a week, the kids get oranges which they rarely have time to eat so they end up tossing them. I rescue as many oranges as I can before they hit the trash to put in my juicer. With the produce challenge last week, I decided to actually take the time to peel and eat an orange with my lunches. I am so surprised at how they not only satisfy my craving for something sweet, but they make me feel full for a long time afterward. Plus, they're still dirt cheap at the grocery store right now! I highly recommend picking up a bag of oranges next time you're at the store!

  1. I love oranges! My husband maintains that they're too much of a bother because he hates to peel them. But I disagree, totally worth it. And how long does it actually take, 90 seconds, maybe 2 minutes?

When I taught full-time I hated to see all of the perfectly good food that kids chucked. I could hardly bear to go to the cafeteria because of all the healthy produce filling up the garbage cans-ACK! There must be a better way! Right?

  2. When I first saw the title of your post it was on my phone (small screen) and I thought it said The Magic of Oreos! Shows what is on my mind!

  3. I've eaten lunch with Atticus a couple times and I can hardly stand to see all the fruits and veggies tossed!
