So, we are headed to Missouri on Tuesday...to spend time with my in-laws. I love them...but they seem to sabotage my eating healthy every time we are together!!!
I am so nervous...and I need help! Does anyone have any ideas on how to handle this situation? What has worked for you when facing sabotagers...?
My mother-in-law LOVES to eat out...like we are talking every day! I am so worried about staying strong and not having what they have. :( And how do I do it without making them feel bad about it. I have tried being strong...but I always fail when it comes to them and eating out.
HELP!!!!
I feel the same way. If you are anything like me around your inlaws it is hard to make your opinion known. Just blame it on the challenge! "I'm really excited about this challenge I'm doing." Explain it to them so they don't think you are just being a snob. They can't think you are too lame for following through, right?? Maybe try to stick to the bigger chains for meals because then you can still track calories. Maybe plan what you will eat before you even get there. Then you won't be tempted by all the delicious options. You already decided! Not speaking from experience here. I crumbled when marks mom and stepdad came here this week and it was even on my own turf!! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of places with some really yummy, low cal-count salads. I know they get old really quick, but it's an option. When I was on vacation, I even found some restaurants that had the calories/meal on the menu. That helped a lot. Maybe take a recipe or two and tell them you found a really good recipe you want them to try and talk them into staying in for dinner a couple times....
ReplyDeletePlus, (as Sariah had to remind me) you're not REQUIRED to stay within a calorie budget unless you make it your personal goal. Just try and exercise while you're there to help keep things in check a little better.
I guess I'm wondering why they would feel so strongly about you having the same thing to eat as them at a restaurant? Isn't the point of going out to eat and looking at a menu...to get whatever you want? Why in the world would that make anyone feel bad?
ReplyDeleteWhen people ask my why I'm not having the fries, or the desert, or whatever, I simply say "I don't want to." If you say something more flimsy like, "I can't" they will simply respond with "but yes you can."
I would probably also schedule in one indulgence meal while you're there. I usually have one of those every week. Keeps me sane! :)
